zqxwceandClaude Fable 5 74b6076557 cli: Wire --frida through the pipeline, gated to cloudOS 26.4+
Expose --frida on patch-firmware, patch-component, fw patch, and vm create
(plus `make fw_patch_jb/exp FRIDA=1`), threading it into
KernelJBPatcher.applyFrida via FirmwarePipeline.

The kernel patches apply only when the cloudOS kernel is 26.4+ (the versions
where the shapes were validated); older kernels are left untouched. Baseline
JB/EXP output is byte-identical without --frida (26.4 emits 83 records, 87 with).

zqxwceandClaude Opus 4.8 c5300d0377 feat: standalone .app bundling + versioned resource resolution
- scripts/build.sh builds+signs the binary, bundles a self-contained .app
  (mirrors scripts/patchers/resources/tools/vphoned + requirements.txt into
Contents/Resources) and re-signs; the signed guest daemon stages under
  .build (not the repo root)
- CryptexFilesystemPatcher resolves assets via VPhoneResources instead of
  CWD-relative paths
- Makefile space-safety; .gitignore updates

31772b3818 cfw: Add opt-in --force-exc-guard for the EXC_GUARD Mach-port-guard patch
On 26.x bases the EXC_GUARD (Mach port guard) disable patch is not required
to boot, so it is no longer applied unconditionally on regular/jb/exp.
Production apps shipping crash-reporting/RASP SDKs (Bugly, Crashlytics,
KSCrash) call task_swap_exception_ports(), which the research kernel enforces
as a fatal GUARD_TYPE_MACH_PORT violation on launch; a --force-exc-guard flag
(FORCE_EXC_GUARD=1 in the Makefile) re-enables the patch for those cases.

iOS 18 bases and the dev variant keep the patch always-on, since both need it
to boot. The documented violation is corrected from SET_EXCEPTION_BEHAVIOR to
KOBJECT_REPLY_PORT_SEMANTICS, matching the actual reproduction crash logs.

Also add /vm-*/ to .gitignore for multi-VM directories.

Maximilian Paß 478b44a5b6 Remove boot_less dependency 2026-07-15 08:12:00 +03:00
zqxwceandClaude Opus 4.8 fcc30e1657 general: Remove SSH-ramdisk CFW install path; host-mount is the sole flow
The ramdisk-based install (build/send an SSH ramdisk, iproxy-forward, then
push CFW files over SSH and flip the boot snapshot with snaputil in-VM) has
been fully replaced by the host-mount path: cfw_install_host.sh mounts the
VM's Disk.img on the host, places every file locally, and flips the boot
snapshot offline via tools/apfs_snap_rename.py. This removes all remaining
ramdisk generation, delivery, and usage — no legacy fallback.

Deleted:
  - scripts/ramdisk_build.py, scripts/ramdisk_send.sh
Renamed:
  - scripts/cfw_host_mode.sh -> scripts/cfw_transport.sh (was a conditional
"host-mode override"; now the sole, unconditionally-sourced transport)

setup_machine.sh: drop the USE_RAMDISK_CFW=1 branch and every iproxy/ramdisk
helper (usbmux UDID resolution, port picking, start/stop iproxy, wait-for-
ramdisk-ssh), all RAMDISK_*/IPROXY_* vars, the cleanup() iproxy handling, and
the orphaned cfw_install_target var. Only the host-mount cfw_install_host call
remains.

cfw_install{,_dev,_jb,_exp}.sh: delete the SSH transport (SSH_* vars, SSH_OPTS,
sshpass prereq/_sshpass/_ssh_retry, ssh_cmd/scp_to/scp_from/remote_file_exists/
remote_mount, wait_for_device_ssh_ready) and the dead ramdisk-mechanism body
blocks (snaputil snapshot flip, dropbearkey host-key pre-generation, halt-over-
SSH, CFW_SKIP_HALT). The transport is now sourced unconditionally from
cfw_transport.sh. dropbear -R generates host keys at first boot; the offline
apfs_snap_rename.py does the boot-source flip. Dropped the vestigial
CFW_HOST_MODE gate.

Also: pymobiledevice3_bridge.py (ramdisk-send command already gone), Makefile
(ramdisk targets/help/IRECOVERY_ECID removed), README + ja/ko/zh (install flow
rewritten to host-mount), AGENTS.md/CLAUDE.md architecture tree, and stale
comments in vphone_jb_setup.sh, VPhoneCLI.swift, apfs_snap_rename.py,
cfw_patch_post_restore_dt.py.

Verified booting via make setup_machine.

zqxwceandClaude Opus 4.8 d28754e89e cfw: Implement ramdisk-free host-mount CFW install
Add a host-mount install path that replaces the DFU + ramdisk_send +
iproxy + SSH transport: mount the VM's Disk.img volumes on the host, place
every CFW file locally, then flip the boot snapshot offline
(tools/apfs_snap_rename.py). The resulting VM is identical to the
ramdisk-installed one, minus the round-trips.

- cfw_host_mode.sh: sourced by cfw_install*.sh when CFW_HOST_MODE=1;
  overrides ssh_cmd/scp_to/scp_from/remote_mount/remote_file_exists to run
locally against volumes mounted at $CFW_HOST_MNT/mnt{1,3,5} (host / is
read-only, so device /mntN tokens are remapped), routes /usr/bin/tar to
gtar (bsdtar lacks the GNU flags), and skips snaputil/dropbearkey/halt.
- cfw_install{,_dev,_jb,_exp}.sh: source the shim after their helper defs
(host-mode is opt-in; the SSH path is unchanged). Also reword progress
messages that assumed the ramdisk/SSH flow ("~3 minutes" scp, "to
device", "Reboot the device") to read correctly in both modes.
- cfw_install_host.sh + `make cfw_install_host VARIANT=regular|dev|jb|exp`:
attach the image, run the chosen installer under CFW_HOST_MODE as root,
detach, and run the offline snapshot flip. Restores ownership of the
  host-side artifacts it creates (vm/.vphoned.signed, .cfw_temp, ...) to
  the invoking user afterward, so a later user-run `make boot` isn't
  blocked by root-owned files.

Runs as root (owners-honored mounts / chown / cp) via a sudo re-exec. No
authenticated-root/ARV change needed; mount_apfs -o rw honors owners.

zqxwceandClaude Opus 4.8 3e05c89826 setup: Default to non-interactive, add INTERACTIVE opt-in
setup_machine now runs non-interactive by default (auto-continue first-boot
stages + boot analysis). Pass INTERACTIVE=1 to restore the live prompts.
The old NON_INTERACTIVE external knob is dropped; it remains only as the
internal computed flag the first-boot prompts read.

zqxwceandClaude Opus 4.8 3b45ba2571 test: firmware_patches: Add full-pipeline cross-version firmware patch gate
test_jb_kernel_patches.sh only exercises the `kernel-jb` component, so it can't
see drift in the boot chain (iBSS/iBEC/LLB), the base KernelPatcher, TXM, or
DeviceTree — where real 26.x builds silently skipped sub-patches.

Add test_firmware_patches.sh (`make test_fw_patches`): runs the full
patch-firmware pipeline for the jb and exp variants over each locally-prepared
cloudOS firmware (assembled into a disposable VM dir; ipsws/ is never mutated)
and fails on any component that emits a `[-]` line. Because patchAll() only
throws on a zero-patch component, a partial skip never changes the exit code —
so the gate scans stdout for `[-]`.

Gilbo 3b7cf92137 Fix typo NONE_INTERACTIVE --> NON_INTERACTIVE 2026-06-22 12:15:06 +03:00
Gilbo d34c023e55 [kernel-jb] retarget hooks broken by cloudOS 26.5 kernel drift
- hook_cred_label (sudo/setuid): resolve vfs_context_current generically; uthread offset drifted to 0x3F0
- proc_security_policy: anchor on PRIV_GLOBAL_PROC_INFO (0x3EA), not the drifted `cmp #0x21` switch literal
- proc_pidinfo: match the unique guard+EINVAL+flavor-switch shape (now inlined into proc_info_internal)
- task_conversion_eval: accept the kernel_task compare in either operand order
- io_secure_bsd_root: anchor on the kIOReturnNotPrivileged deny-CSEL; drop the moved [x19,#0x11A] context
- mac_mount: match the role-state ldrb + bit-6 test (Site 2 folded into one load on 26.5)
- spawn_validate_persona: anchor on the dual sibling [#8]/[#0xc] cbz reject
- vm_map_protect: handle both the 26.1/26.3 b.ne gate and the 26.5 W^X mask register (mov #5 -> #7)
- kcall10: locate the sysent table structurally; drop the brittle _nosys tiny-stub heuristic
- add tests/test_jb_kernel_patches.sh (make test_jb_patches[, QUICK=1]) over every supported cloudOS kernel

Fixes #342.

The 26.1-derived patchset silently skipped 9 hooks on 26.5 — the pipeline only
fails a component when it emits zero patches total, so a half-patched kernel
shipped as "success" and sudo broke with 'nosuid'.

Verified across 26.1/26.3/26.4/26.5

vinaykumar🍁 48c968ca1b Makefile: support absolute VM_DIR paths (e.g. external SSD) (#345)
The fw_patch* and restore_* targets built the VM directory argument as
$(CURDIR)/$(VM_DIR), which assumes VM_DIR is relative to the repo. An
absolute VM_DIR (e.g. /Volumes/ssd/vphone-vm) produced a broken joined
path like /Users/.../vphone-cli//Volumes/ssd/vphone-vm and failed with
'no such file'.

Add VM_DIR_ABS := $(abspath $(VM_DIR)) and use it for the VM directory
argument. abspath leaves absolute paths intact and joins relative ones
against CURDIR, so both the default 'vm' and absolute paths work. The
cd $(VM_DIR) targets were already absolute-safe and are unchanged.

zqxwce ee5e7d0fa2 kernel: Introduce EXP variant and hv_vmm_present OID rename (KernelEXPPatcher)
Introduces a new `exp` firmware variant on top of JB and ports the
`hv_vmm_present` sysctl rename to it.

Variant infrastructure
----------------------
- Adds `case exp` to `FirmwarePipeline.Variant`,
  `VPhoneCLI.PatchFirmwareCLI.VariantOption`, and
  `VPhoneVirtualMachine.Variant`. Every `switch variant` block in
  `FirmwarePipeline.buildComponentList` includes the new case.
- Adds `make fw_patch_exp` + `make cfw_install_exp` Makefile targets
and an `EXP=1` flag for `make setup_machine`, mutually exclusive with
  `JB=1` / `DEV=1` / `LESS=1`. `SPOOF_BUILD` env var is threaded
through for later use by the build-version step.
- Adds `--exp` to `scripts/setup_machine.sh` alongside `--jb` /
  `--dev` / `--less`. The post-install JB-Finalize block also fires
for EXP (since EXP inherits the JB rootfs deployment).
- Adds `scripts/cfw_install_exp.sh` as the EXP install script
starting point: identical phase set to `cfw_install_jb.sh` (JB-1..JB-5)
with banner/header/footer updated for EXP. Subsequent commits in this
branch add the EXP-only experimental phases on top.
- Updates the variants table in `AGENTS.md` / `README.md` and the
three translated READMEs to include the new `Experimental (EXP)`
row, plus a paragraph describing what EXP adds on top of JB.

Kernel patch
------------
- New `KernelEXPPatcher` orchestrator in
  `sources/FirmwarePatcher/Kernel/`, chained after `KernelPatcher` +
`KernelJBPatcher` for the `.exp` variant only. Inherits
  `KernelJBPatcherBase` to reuse the JB symbol-table / ADRP-BL index /
  branch-encoder infrastructure.
- New `KernelEXPPatchHvVmmRename` patch in
  `sources/FirmwarePatcher/Kernel/EXPPatches/`. Part A flips byte 0 of
  the NUL-delimited `\\0hv_vmm_present\\0` cstring (the sysctl OID's
  `oid_name` value) — `'h'` -> `'X'` — so the kernel resolves
  `sysctlbyname("kern.hv_vmm_present")` as ENOENT and
`sysctlbyname("kern.Xv_vmm_present")` to the OID's real int value.
Part B mangles byte 5 of every kernel-internal occurrence of
`kern.hv_vmm_present` so callers keep hitting the renamed OID; two
  byte-aligned forms are covered (NUL-delimited cstring + sandbox-profile
  name-token with trailing `\\x0f`).
- Patch IDs are `kernelcache_exp.hv_vmm_oid_rename` and
  `kernelcache_exp.hv_vmm_internal_caller_mangle`. Idempotent.
- `KernelJBPatcher` is unchanged at the call-site level (no
`patchHvVmmRename` call); its docstring is updated to point at
  `KernelEXPPatcher` for the EXP-only patch.

JB and other variants are NOT affected: `cfw_install_jb.sh` and
`cfw_install_dev.sh` are untouched in this commit.

Xin Huang 08c9cb78ee Nix PATH preservation, amfidont boot, and preflight stability (#196)
* fix: preserve caller PATH through Nix zshenv reset in cfw scripts

Nix darwin's /etc/zshenv resets PATH on every zsh subprocess,
discarding the Makefile's carefully constructed PATH (which includes
.venv/bin and /opt/homebrew/bin). This caused 'Missing Python deps'
and ldid PKCS12_parse errors during cfw_install.

Pass the Makefile PATH through _VPHONE_PATH env var (which zshenv
won't touch), and restore it at the top of each cfw_install script.

* fix(cfw_install_dev): add python resolver, use glob for vphoned sources

- Add _resolve_python3() matching cfw_install.sh so the venv python
is used instead of Nix system python (which lacks capstone/keystone).
- Replace hardcoded VPHONED_SRCS list with glob pattern to auto-pick
up new .m files (was missing 5 files: accessibility, apps, clipboard,
settings, url — causing linker errors).

* fix: amfidont uses bundle binary CDHash and .build path

make boot launches the bundle binary (.build/vphone-cli.app/Contents/
MacOS/vphone-cli), not the release binary. amfidont's --path must
cover the .app bundle location.

- amfidont_allow_vphone depends on bundle (not build)
- start_amfidont_for_vphone.sh extracts CDHash from bundle binary
- --path points to .build/ so amfidont covers .app bundle contents

* fix(preflight): prevent run_capture errexit on non-zero return

zsh set -e is global scope — set -e inside run_capture then
return 137 triggers errexit and kills the script before reaching
the assert-bootable check. Use '|| rc=$?' instead to capture
the exit code without modifying errexit state.

LakrandClaude Sonnet 4.6 6d11093152 feat: Add VM manifest system and code clarity improvements
Implement VM configuration manifest system compatible with security-pcc's
VMBundle.Config format, storing VM settings in config.plist.

**Manifest System:**
- Add VPhoneVirtualMachineManifest.swift with security-pcc compatible structure
- Add scripts/vm_manifest.py for manifest generation during vm_new
- Update VPhoneCLI to support --config option with CLI overrides
- Update vm_create.sh to generate config.plist with CPU/memory/screen settings

**Environment Variables:**
- CPU/MEMORY/DISK_SIZE now only used during vm_new (written to manifest)
- boot/boot_dfu automatically read from config.plist
- Remove unused CFW_INPUT variable (overridden by scripts internally)
- Document remaining variables with their usage scope

**Documentation:**
- Update README.md with VM configuration section
- Update docs/README_{zh,ja,ko}.md with translated VM configuration docs
- Update Makefile help output with vm_new options and config.plist usage
- Fix fw_patch_jb description: "dev + JB extensions"
- Fix restore_get_shsh description: "Dump SHSH response from Apple"

**Code Quality:**
- Add VPhoneVirtualMachineRefactored.swift demonstrating code-clarity principles
- Extract 200+ line init into focused configuration methods
- Improve naming: hardwareModel, graphicsConfiguration, soundDevice
- Add BatteryConnectivity enum for magic numbers
- Create research/manifest_and_refactoring_summary.md with full analysis

**Compatibility with security-pcc:**
- Platform type: Fixed vresearch101 (iPhone-only)
- Network: NAT only (no bridging/host-only needed)
- Added: ScreenConfig and SEP storage (iPhone-specific)
- Removed: VirtMesh plugin support (PCC-specific)

docs: add machineIdentifier storage analysis

Research and validate the integration of machineIdentifier into config.plist.

**Findings:**
- security-pcc stores machineIdentifier in config.plist (same approach)
- VZMacAuxiliaryStorage creation is independent of machineIdentifier
- VZMacMachineIdentifier only requires Data representation, not file source
- No binding or validation between components

**Conclusion:**
- No compatibility issues
- Matches security-pcc official implementation
- Proper handling of first-boot creation and data recovery
- Safe to use

Delete VPhoneVirtualMachineRefactored.swift

refactor: integrate machineIdentifier into config.plist

Move machineIdentifier storage from standalone machineIdentifier.bin file
into the central config.plist manifest for simpler VM configuration.

**Changes:**
- VPhoneVirtualMachineManifest: Remove machineIDFile field
- VPhoneVirtualMachine: Load/create machineIdentifier from manifest
- VPhoneCLI: Remove --machine-id parameter, require --config
- Makefile: Remove --machine-id from boot/boot_dfu targets
- vm_manifest.py: Remove machineIDFile from manifest structure

**Behavior:**
- First boot: Creates machineIdentifier and saves to config.plist
- Subsequent boots: Loads machineIdentifier from config.plist
- Invalid/empty machineIdentifier: Auto-regenerates and updates manifest
- All VM configuration now centralized in single config.plist file

**File cleanup:**
- Move VPhoneVirtualMachineRefactored.swift to research/ as reference

Felipe CavalcantiandClaude Opus 4.6 32b73cd50b Rework JB finalization: drop dropbear, auto-bootstrap on first boot (#141)
* fix: build

* fix: remove [trusted=yes] from Havoc apt source

The inline [trusted=yes] option can cause issues with Sileo's
source parser. The apt-get calls already use AllowUnauthenticated
flags, making it redundant.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <[email protected]>

* fix: main actor crash in VPhoneControl + IPA extraction failures

VPhoneControl: pending request handlers are @MainActor-isolated closures
but were called from DispatchQueue.global() in the read loop and timeout
handler, causing dispatch_assert_queue_fail crashes. Wrap all
pending.handler() calls in DispatchQueue.main.async.

unarchive: the recent ARCHIVE_EXTRACT_SECURE_* hardening (ef02d50) broke
IPA extraction on iOS because:
- SECURE_NOABSOLUTEPATHS: we set absolute output paths on entries
- SECURE_SYMLINKS: iOS system paths (/var, /tmp) are symlinks
- archive_write_header failures were silently swallowed due to if/else if
structure, making extraction report success with no files extracted

Fix by keeping only SECURE_NODOTDOT, resolving symlinks in extraction
path, fixing header error handling, removing unnecessary ACL/FFLAGS
flags, and surfacing libarchive errors in the install response.

generation, daemon deployment, and SSH availability messages.

* feat: liblaunch compat stub + automatic JB first-boot setup

liblaunch_compat.dylib: stub exporting _launch_active_user_switch
(missing from PCC VM's libSystem.B.dylib) so procursus binaries
like launchctl can load. Deployed to /cores/, loaded via
DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES in LaunchDaemon environment and JB profile.

vphone_jb_setup.sh: first-boot script replacing the SSH-based
cfw_install_jb_post.sh. Runs as a LaunchDaemon on first normal
boot and performs all JB finalization: /var/jb symlink,
prep_bootstrap, markers, Sileo, apt setup, TrollStore Lite.
Idempotent with done marker. Logs to /var/log/vphone_jb_setup.log.

Removes the cfw_install_jb_finalize make target and the entire
SSH/iproxy/sshpass-based post-boot flow from setup_machine.sh.

* fix: launchctl wrapper uses absolute path + timeout to prevent hangs

- Use absolute path to launchctl.real instead of relative dirname,
fixing "not found" when called via /var/jb/bin/launchctl symlink
- Add 5s timeout so launchctl doesn't hang when launchd is
unresponsive on PCC VMs — always exits 0 for dpkg postinst compat
- Symlink /var/jb/bin/launchctl -> /var/jb/usr/bin/launchctl so both

* fix: replace liblaunch_compat dylib stub with iosbinpack64 launchctl symlink

Procursus launchctl crashes on PCC VMs due to missing
_launch_active_user_switch symbol. Rather than a custom dylib stub,
simply symlink iosbinpack64's launchctl into /var/jb — it talks to
launchd fine and always exits 0, which is all dpkg scripts need.

- Remove liblaunch_compat.c, its build target, signing, and deployment
- Remove DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES from setup script and plist
- Replace launchctl wrapper with symlinks to /iosbinpack64/bin/launchctl
- Both /var/jb/usr/bin/launchctl and /var/jb/bin/launchctl are covered

Lakr cfee3ea076 Add JB finalizer script; remove IPA signing UI
Add scripts/cfw_install_jb_post.sh — an idempotent SSH-based finalizer to complete JB bootstrap on a normally-booted vphone (creates /var/jb symlink, fixes ownership, runs prep_bootstrap, creates markers, installs Sileo, and runs apt; requires sshpass). Add Makefile help, .PHONY and target cfw_install_jb_finalize to invoke the script. Remove host-side IPA signing/installing and related UI: delete VPhoneSigner, VPhoneIPAInstaller, VPhoneMenuInstall and remove signer/ipaInstaller fields and menu items/callbacks from the vphone-cli UI (also removed the DevMode enable WIP flow). Misc: minor table/formatting tweaks in AGENTS.md and research docs.

Lakr b9b462d23f JB install: use external insert_dylib, preserve launchd entitlements, deploy pre-built dylibs
- Replace Python cfw_inject_dylib.py with tyilo/insert_dylib (built by setup_tools)
- Use --weak flag for LC_LOAD_WEAK_DYLIB injection (avoids crash on missing dylib)
- Preserve original launchd entitlements on re-sign (fixes "operation not permitted")
- Deploy dylibs from pre-built basebin payload instead of building from source
- Remove launchdhook, systemhook, treblehook sources (no longer needed)
- Print GDB debug stub port after VM starts
- Cleanup: remove test scripts, rename patch comparison doc

These were used for per-patch kernel JB debugging (C23 bisect,

Lakr 894c2d1551 Fix C23: vnode_getattr string anchor resolved to wrong function (AppleImage4)
Root cause: find_string("vnode_getattr") matched "%s: vnode_getattr: %d"
format string inside an AppleImage4 function. The old code then took that
function as vnode_getattr itself, causing BL to call into AppleImage4 with
wrong arguments → PAC failure on indirect branch at a2+48.

Fix: _find_vnode_getattr_via_string() now scans backward from the string
ref for a BL instruction and extracts its target — the real vnode_getattr
(sub_FFFFFE0007CCD1B4 at foff 0xCC91B4).

Bisection confirmed: variants A (stack frame) and B (+ tpidr_el1) boot OK,
variant C (+ BL vnode_getattr) panics with old resolution, boots OK with fix.

Boot-tested: full C23 patch with corrected vnode_getattr — BOOTS OK.

Lakr ae599d5b3b Add kernel patch testing scripts and targets
Introduce a set of tools for fast and batch testing of kernel JB patches: add testing_batch.sh, testing_do_patch.sh, testing_do_save.sh and testing_kernel_patch.py (plus a results _summary). Update the Makefile with new targets (testing_do_save, testing_kernel_patch, testing_do_patch, testing_batch) and PHONY entries to wire them into the build/test workflow. Modify kernel_jb.py to enable the amfi cdhash-in-trustcache patch (A1) and mark the amfi execve kill-path patch as causing PANIC (A2). These changes allow restoring a base kernel backup, applying single patches quickly, running per-patch DFU boots (with timeout/panic detection), and collecting logs for batch runs.

Lakr 9bb53b7368 Add testing_do script and Makefile target
Introduce a new zsh helper script (scripts/testing_do.sh) and a Makefile target (testing_do) to automate the testing DFU workflow. The script sets strict error handling, kills any existing vphone-cli, runs fw_prepare, fw_patch_jb and testing_ramdisk_build, sends the ramdisk in the background, boots DFU, and tracks/cleans up child processes on exit. This simplifies and sequences the steps required to prepare, patch, send and boot the test ramdisk.
